Windows Server 2012 is a server operating system released by Microsoft. It is the server version of Windows 8 and is the successor to Windows Server 2008 R2. The software has been available to consumers since 4 September 2012. A successor was released on 18 October 2013, entitled Windows Server 2012 R2. Microsoft will end its extended support for Windows Server 2012 on 10 October 2023.
Unlike its predecessor, Windows Server 2012 does not have support for computers with Intel Itanium processors and four editions are sold. Some features have been added or improved compared to Windows Server 2008 R2, such as an update to Hyper-V, an IP address management role, a new version of Windows Task Manager, and a new file system is introduced: ReFS.
