Windows Server 2019 is the latest operating system produced by Microsoft for its server family. Microsoft announced it on 20 March 2018, and the first Windows Insider preview was released on the same day. It was released commercially on 2 October 2018.1
Like its predecessor, Windows Server 2019 has only two kernel-based versions – Standard and Datacenter, with the latter offering greater features such as SMB Direct or features not available in Windows Server 2019 Standard3 and Storage Spaces Direct, and also greater support for virtual machines with Hyper-V, which is available in both versions. It also has a version for specialised servers called Essentials with user and device limits.
The installer offers the possibility to install in Core mode (minimal user interface) for remote administration, or Desktop Experience (full user interface) for local administration.
